Premenstrual Syndrome in Unmarried Women



Abstract
The authors researched the premenstrual syndrome by using the Korean translated form of Premenstrual Assessment Form(Halbreich U & Endicott J, 1981) in 171 unmarried college students. We studied the most frequent and least frequent changes of Premenstrual Assessment Form, and the most frequent and least frequent changes of the Premenstrual Assessment Form Typological Categories reported on the Premenstrual Assessment Form.
The results were as following
1. The five most frequent changes of PAF of 171 subjects were feeling of malaise (88. 3%), decreased energy (87.1%), backache, joint or muscle pains (87.1%), feel bloated(85. 4%), abdominal pain or discomfort (81.9%).
2. The five least frequent changes of PAF of 171 subjects were pain during intercourse (3.5%), smoke/drink more(8.2%), terminal insomnia(9.9%), picks skin/bites nails(13. 5%), flare ups of allergy(13.5%).
3. The frequent typological categories of PAF were general physical discomfort syndrome(72.5%), impaired social functioning (46.2%), water retention syndrome (40.4%), fatigue (38.6%), major depressive syndrome (33.3%).
